Unhealthy Journalism- Some News Causes More Harm Than Good!

Unhealthy journalism- never heard of the term? Come let’s help you to become familiar with it!

NEWS, keeping the North, East, West, and South in touch, has always played a crucial and essential role in the overall development of a nation, a community, or even an individual. The ultimate source of information about the things happening in and out of the world, Journalism greatly impacts our day-to-day life. It helps us in understanding the current events and affairs – all that’s happening around the world; keep us informed and up-to-date; and also helps us in understanding things which might affect our lives. But how does this ‘healthy journalism’ (full of politics, health, environment, and technology), becomes unhealthy for our mind and productivity?

Have you ever questioned yourself about the reason behind spending hours watching the news? Does this inform us well or are we being played by these mighty media houses? News impacts our lives and culture, but nowadays, it is, sadly, affecting us in a way we don’t desire. News today is, somehow, failing to paint a true picture or render authentic information that is directly useful for the population of the world. Mental strain, anxiousness, despair, and turning people and society against each other – is what some news stories of today’s era bring along with them. It isn’t what it was years ago and it’s the right time to realize how toxic it can be!

Leading or Mis-Leading Journalism?

Most of the news we consume today misleads us in many ways. They don’t portray the real story and instead, turn heads towards something irrelevant and unnecessary. News leads us in a completely different direction leaving us so diverted that we don’t realize what was the real truth and who was the culprit. Political dominance has a huge role to play in this. Big political leaders often team up with the news channels to cover up their ill-doings and hide their bitter truths. How many times have you come across a news story exposing these political people despite being involved in several scams? Almost none, right? It’s high time to realize why such truths aren’t exposed in front of us.

Transforming the Irrelevant into Relevant

Journalism is known to provide us all “necessary” information that affects our day-to-day lives and depending on which we sometimes take big life decisions. We spend hours on daily basis to consume what journalism offers these days but can you remember one such story, out of the hundreds you consume, which created an impact on you and allowed you to make a better decision on the matters related to your life or career? It has become very difficult to find out what’s relevant and new. This gives you mental stress, anxiety and also affects your productivity.

In the current times, the big media houses are busy setting personal agendas while we are suffering from the mental stress after ingesting what they share. Our desire to stay informed is often used as a weakness of ours as the media is aware of the tricks to steal the viewers’ attention. Some news stories often end up creating havoc between the different community/religious groups. The results of such stories create a state of fear, anger, tension, tunnel-vision, stress, and desensitization among the mass population. Hence, news inhibits thinking and acts as toxic to our body as well as the society. News also makes us passive and kills our creativity.

Conclusion

The world needs journalism but not the way it is working today. It needs journalism that watch-guards the different institutions, uncovers the real truth, gives voice to people (not only those who already dominate all voices), treats religions and people (political or common, rich or poor) equally, and doesn’t fool the audience. Such journalism will, undoubtedly, be considered “healthy” – less mental stress, less disruption, deeper thinking, less anxiety, and a fearless environment.

  1. Good research article but point is how to differentiate good news from not good news is very hard task as all news is not fake but they are presented in such a away that some groups are taking millage out of same but question will remain news how to make a right conclusion out of rounded up bad or good news or we can say true or not true news
